Precautions for Operating a Vacuum Freeze Dryer
The vacuum freeze dryer has a fast drying speed, high efficiency, and does not damage the nutritional components of the product. It is mainly designed for drying heat-sensitive, easily decomposed, and easily oxidizable materials, while also introducing inert gas into the interior, allowing for rapid drying of special materials. The vacuum freeze dryer mainly utilizes vacuum drying technology, and continuously feeds and discharges materials under vacuum conditions. When drying at low pressure, the oxygen content is low, which prevents the dried materials from oxidizing and deteriorating; at low temperatures, it also allows for the vaporization of moisture in the materials, making it especially suitable for drying heat-sensitive materials. The vacuum freeze dryer has been widely used in dehydrating and drying fruits and vegetables, food, health products, medicines, and more.
The vacuum freeze dryer mainly has the following operational precautions:
1. Vacuum Extraction: Before use, the vacuum freeze dryer must first be evacuated, and then heated and operated. According to industry personnel, if heating is done before vacuum extraction, it may reduce the efficiency of the vacuum pump. When heated air is extracted by the vacuum pump, the heat will inevitably be transferred to the pump, leading to an excessive temperature rise in the vacuum pump. Additionally, because the vacuum freeze dryer works in a vacuum-sealed state, if heating is done first, the gas expands due to heat and creates enormous pressure which could potentially cause an explosion, posing a significant danger.
2. Explosion and Corrosion Prevention: The vacuum freeze dryer should be used in an environment where the relative humidity is ≤85% RH and where no corrosive gases that may affect the performance of the vacuum freeze dryer are present. As the working chamber of the double-cone rotary vacuum freeze dryer does not have special treatments for explosion and corrosion protection, the vacuum freeze dryer should not process materials that are flammable, explosive, or that may produce corrosive gases.
3. Avoid Long Operating Times: The vacuum pump of the vacuum freeze dryer should not operate for extended periods. Therefore, once the vacuum level reaches the requirement for drying the material, first close the vacuum valve, then turn off the power of the vacuum pump. When the vacuum level drops below the material requirement, the vacuum valve and the power of the vacuum pump can be re-opened to continue evacuation, which can prolong the life of the vacuum pump.
4. Sampling Requires Opening the Air Valve: During operation, if sampling is needed to check the drying status of the material or analyze it, the vacuum pump should be turned off, the valve on the vacuum pipeline should be opened, and then the exhaust valve on the vacuum system should be opened to introduce air into the device, while the main unit should be paused.
Sampling can then be done as needed. After sampling, the equipment can be restarted. Compared to traditional dryers, vacuum freeze dryers not only improve the efficiency of material drying and drying quality but also have obvious advantages in environmental protection and a broad market prospect. Users need to ensure safety during operation.
